So I’m trying to find an apartment. Not a dump, but not a five star either. So, what’s with the background checks? Are we going to steal their carpeting, their walls? We’re willing to put down a security deposit just like everyone else, so what gives?
Fortunately, there are some landlords willing to help us begin our lives anew. It’s not always the first place, or the best, but don’t give up your search for a place you can call your own. Imagine, a place without bunkies, without noise, a place where you can scratch your ass without someone noticing.
I was also fortunate because I was a vet, and not everyone has forgotten us. But even if you’ve never spent a day in uniform, there are plenty of government and private agencies willing to step up and make your transition a smooth one.
So, even if you can’t rent the first or second or fiftieth place you look at, you will find that special place and you’ll appreciate it all the more.
